Why would participating in APrON be a unique and positive experience?
- you will join 9,999 other expectant women and their families from Calgary and Edmonton
- the group will consist of families from many different backgrounds and cultures
- APrON is supported by 16 researchers who are knowledgeable, talented and extremely qualified in their
areas of expertise including: family medicine, child development, psychology, neonatology, psychiatry, nutrition, genetics and biostatistics
- APrON will have lasting, long term outcomes that will potentially affect government policy, education,
and public health efforts
- your involvement will help establish a DNA biobank which will give
geneticists the opportunity to explore the relationship between genotypes and a variety of maternal and child health outcomes
- participants will receive summaries of the study results and information about their
own child if they have a developmental assessment at the Alberta Children's Hospital
We want each family to appreciate that they are important members of the team.
It is important that participation not be a burden for you, and so we will cover parking expenses and/or transit costs, provide access to
childcare during testing and a hospitable reception area for families.
To become a participant you must:
- live in Calgary or Edmonton
- enter the study before you are 27 weeks gestation
- be 16 years of age or older
- speak and write English
- sign a consent form, giving the researchers permission to involve you
and your child in the study
The average time commitment over 5 years will be 30-35 hours, and most of it can be completed in your home.
I have read the requirements for participation, and would like someone from the study to contact me.
