How Participants Are Enrolled
Pregnant women from the Calgary and Edmonton areas are invited to participate in APrON (Alberta Pregnancy Outcomes and Nutrition). Pregnant women can participate if they:
  • live in Calgary, Edmonton or surrounding areas
  • are less than 27 weeks gestation
  • are 16 years of age or older
  • are fluent in written and spoken English
Whenever possible, biological fathers are asked to participate too.

In Calgary, women are recruited from several prenatal clinics, ultrasound facilities, pregnancy care centres, and shops selling maternity or baby products around the city.

In Edmonton, obstetricians refer expectant women to the Women and Children’s Health Research Institute (WCHRI) . WCHRI assists women who want to participate in one of several studies in progress in Edmonton: APrON (Alberta Pregnancy Outcomes and Nutrition), CHILD (The Canadian Healthy Infant Longitudinal Development Study) , and TIPS: Trauma in Pregnancy Study.
