Background

There is an old saying “you are what you eat.” Numerous studies have found that nutrient levels in our bodies relate to our physical and mental health. Scientists know much less, however, about the relationship between prenatal nutrition and health (for the mother and child).

Mission Statement: To recruit thousands of pregnant Alberta women and determine the impact of their nutrient intake and status on

a) their own mental health, and

b) their children’s neurodevelopment and mental health.

Vision Statement: To improve the health and long-term potential of mothers and newborn babies in Alberta by identifying the role of nutrition in mental and neurodevelopmental disorders, and long-term neurocognitive function.
